About the Cakes

Do you make cakes for small weddings or parties?
Absolutely! Intimate weddings or smaller parties should have a cake that is beautiful and delicious. For custom designed cakes, there is a $350 minimum and, depending on the intricacy of the design, you can choose any serving amount up to 35.

You may also wish to check out the new Patissiere, where you can find beautiful semi-decorated cakes suitable for a fancy party, hostess gift, or casual special occasion. All items in the Patissiere are made fresh so please allow us 3-4 days notice.

Do You Have a Price List?
Because each cake is custom created and designed for you, I’m not able to provide an a la carte price list.  As a general guideline, decorated cakes start at $9.50 per serving, which includes light to moderate hand-created sugar work and decorations, and can extend to $15 per serving for highly intricate, labor-intensive work.

The minimum for custom-created multi-tiered cakes is $350 (any size servings up to 35)

The minimum for custom-created single-tier cakes is $225 (any size servings up to 25)

Undecorated kitchen cakes may be used to supplement servings where a smaller decorated cake is desired, at a lower per person price.

Individual desserts are also available to help supplement guest servings.

We’d like to offer some desserts along with our cake.  Do you do this?
We sure do!  Whether you’re interested in sweet treats for each guest table or a full-blown dessert table, we can create a symphony of dessert offerings that will be truly unforgettable.

How about edible favors?
From decorated cookies to individual bags of flavored popcorn to elaborate tiered mini-cakes… and everything in between.

I’m on a tight budget, but love your cakes. Can you make a fake cake with sheet cakes to serve the guests?
I’m thrilled you love the cakes! The great news is that there are several budget-friendly ideas that we can put together to help meet a realistic cake budget. At times, a faux tier may be used in addition to the decorated real cake at an additional charge. We regret that we do not create faux cakes for sale.

I want an undecorated cake so that I can have the florist put real flowers on it for me. Can I do this?
Did you know that not all real flowers are food safe or non-toxic? We create sugar flowers since we have no control over the species of flowers that are placed on our cakes. Additionally, real flowers typically considered food safe may have been sprayed with pesticides or other chemicals. Lastly, real flowers often are not proportionally sized to the cake. This is not pleasing to the eye and does not compliment your beautiful cake design. Sugar flowers are specially colored for you and, when taken proper care of, make a wonderful keepsake for many years to come.

Can I purchase your sugar flowers to put on my own cake?
I’m sorry, but the sugar flowers are created for decorated cakes purchased through My Daughter’s Cakes.

Timing

How about last minute orders?
Sure, we welcome last minute orders, provided we have availability.  Please give me a call to see how I can help you.

How Far In Advance Should I Order My Cake?
There are some weekends that remain very popular from year-to-year and for which we book immediately. Most clients will book their wedding cake between 12 – 6 months in advance. As much notice as possible is appreciated and will ensure availability. You can call me at 201-927-4293 or email us to check our availability. It’s never too early to reserve your date – My Daughter’s Cakes tends to book quickly.

Consultations and Tastings

.What are your guidelines for consultations & cake tastings?
I look forward to spending some time getting to know you so we can plan your perfect cake!  For this reason, consultations are by appointment only.  Cake tastings are always included with consultations. We now offer On-Site Cake Tastings. See below for more information.

For questions on what to expect at a cake tasting, you can check out this recent blog post.

Cakes and fillings for consultations are made to order and we take a great deal of time in making things just so for you.  Below are a few guidelines for our visit.

For weddings of all sizes, cake tastings for a total of 4 guests are complimentary.  If you would like to bring a total of 5 or 6 guests, there is a tasting fee of $45, which is deducted from your total order when you book your wedding cake.  This is for wedding consultations held at our cake shop.

FOR NEW YORK CITY, HUDSON VALLEY AND CENTRAL NEW JERSEY WEDDINGS: We now offer on-site cake tastings at your venue. If you are getting married in or live in New York City, Hudson Valley or other non-local areas of New Jersey, we can bring the cake tasting to you at your venue. For this service, there is a travel and tasting fee based on venue location payable at the time you reserve your appointment. If you book your wedding cake with us, the fee is subtracted from the price of your cake less any parking fees or tolls incurred. To arrange for an on-site cake tasting, please call me at (201) 927-4293 or use our online appointment maker. Onsite cake tastings are subject to our availability, however, we are happy to work with you and your venue for a mutually convenient day/time. Note: Once your onsite tasting is scheduled/paid, you may cancel or reschedule no later than 24 hours before the appointment date for a refund. There are no refunds of the travel and tasting fee for cancellations or rescheduling less than 24 hours before the appointment date. Rescheduled onsite cake tastings may incur another fee. Onsite cake tasting will require the written permission of your venue.

For other parties (non-weddings), cake tastings are complimentary where your order is for 35 servings or more.  If your order is for less than 35 servings, there is a non-refundable tasting fee of $45.
To schedule a consultation, please use our online appointment maker. You can also call me at 201-927-4293 or email bonjour@mydaughterscakes.com

Because cake tastings are made to order, 24-hour cancellation of a cake tasting is required. (Consultations that are not cancelled within 24 hours may be subject to a $50 tasting fee upon rescheduling if the rescheduled date is more than a day beyond the original appointment.

What are your down payment and payment requirements?
30% non-refundable initial booking fee is due on signing of the Commission Agreement. The balance is due 30 days prior to delivery. Periodic payments throughout our relationship are also gladly accepted.

What type of payments do you accept?
Deposits and payments in full may be made by Visa, MasterCard, American Express, Discover, Paypal, or personal check. Balances paid by credit card are subject to a $20 convenience fee. Please note that payments by check are subject to a $45 return check fee. Payments made by check are not considered “paid” until the check has cleared.

Do you provide delivery and setup?
Yes! Generally, delivery is included within Bergen County and some surrounding counties (excluding NYC and its boroughs). With complex and/or oversized cakes or dessert tables, regardless of location, a setup charge may be necessary due to additional labor required.
